Patents for TrueDelivery™ incorporate innovative algorithms that enable scheduled, secure delivery of terabytes of content for mission-critical applications
Los Altos, CA – August 7, 2006 – Radiance™ Technologies, a leader in managed asset-delivery systems and technology, announced today that it has been awarded a patent, and has a second patent approved, for data-transfer technologies over the Internet or other IP-based networks. The patents – one for scheduling and executing data transfers, and one for controlling data transfer rates – focus on core components that make Radiance’s flagship TrueDelivery™ application unique as a vehicle for delivering content in mission-critical environments.
The patents highlight Radiance’s leadership in data transfer technologies, which enable users of TrueDelivery to achieve bandwidth efficiencies as high as 80% on a pipe, by contrast with efficiencies below 25% that would be achievable with competing technologies on the same pipe. For example, the Radiance file-transfer algorithm breaks files into “linear packages” that are sent as multiple, parallel data transfers, rather than as a single, monolithic data transfer typical of other methods. The result is typically a three-to-one edge or higher – 80% vs. 25% – in bandwidth efficiency.
The second patent cites algorithms by which TrueDelivery manages data flow on a network. Whereas conventional algorithms specify sending data across network nodes in a best-effort fashion, TrueDelivery provides networking intelligence for sharing of resources on network nodes and for setting resource objectives such as deadlines for delivery of data, storage space, and minimizing the cost of delivering data. As a result, a TrueDelivery system can provide a guarantee of 100% content transfer capability.
“These patent wins demonstrate Radiance’s intent to protect its leadership position in delivery mechanisms for mission-critical digital content,” said Tom Engdahl, President and CEO of Radiance. “Moreover, the scope of our R&D efforts and our commitment to continuous product innovation are reflected in the strong market acceptance that we have achieved.”
“Radiance has racked up a number of technology firsts in the delivery of digital content,” said Dan Eilers, General Partner at Vanguard Ventures and a member of the Radiance board of directors. “The company’s new patents prove once again why TrueDelivery has become the application of choice for the transfer of terabytes of content by Global 2000 companies and government agencies.”
The patents, titled “System and Method of Scheduling and Executing Data Transfers Over a Network” and “System and Method for Controlling Data Transfer Rates on a Network,” can be viewed at the US Patent and Trademark Office website, www.uspto.gov.
TrueDelivery is used by enterprises for digital transfer and management on data-intensive projects, as well as for delivery of gigabyte- and terabyte-size content in applications ranging from entertainment, to manufacturing, to military, and to medical devices.
